UC San Francisco pays hackers $1.14 million to return stolen data
The University of California at San Francisco has paid $1.14 million to hackers that were behind a cyberattack earlier this month. The attack was carried out by Netwalker, a dark web ransomware operation, which originally asked for a Bitcoin payment worth $3 million to return and decrypt stolen data. The university is now working with the FBI to ensure all the data is recovered.
