UK Met Office invests £1.2 billion in HPE's Cray supercomputer
The UK's weather and climate unit is buying an HPE Cray supercomputer for £1.2 billion. Met Office says the investment will allow it to "lead the fight" against climate change and meet emissions targets. Cray will be able to more accurately predict storms and other changes to climate. It will be 18x faster than the Met Office's current solution, with a peak speed of 145 petaflops.
